From the Ice to Impact: My Journey from Youth Hockey to Strategic Leadership

This week, I had the incredible opportunity to stand inside the Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, NY—where one of the greatest moments in sports history unfolded: the Miracle on Ice. In 1980, a scrappy, underestimated U.S. Olympic hockey team shocked the world by defeating the Soviet Union. But as I stood looking down at the ice, it wasn’t just about history—it was personal

When I was seven years old, my mother signed me up to play hockey… in an all-boys league. It was bold. Unconventional. And exactly what I needed. That rink became my classroom for resilience, leadership, and strategy. I learned how to adapt, anticipate, and persist. I didn’t just play the game—I studied it.
Today, as a business consultant, that mindset still drives my work. Strategy, like hockey, is a team sport. It’s about alignment, trust, and momentum. My experience on the ice fuels the passion I now pour into helping leaders and teams win—by design.

This visit reminded me: We all have sacred moments—milestones that shape who we are and how we lead. I encourage you to reflect on the dots in your story. What early passions shaped your path? What “arena” first ignited your purpose?
