Hi I’m Melahni Qualls Ake a 1986 Graduate:

Varsity Athlete, Co Founder of the Girls High School Softball Team (yes Kim Sedam and I petitioned 100 signatures, found a coach and got approval to start the team by our athletic director)

GHS was a great source of inspiration that has helped me shape everything I do today in my life by so many of my teachers including Susan Edwards to capture stories, Rebecca Blanford Ramsey to take leadership roles and challenge others perspectives and Vicki Noblitt as one of my favorite coaches taught us the power of shared community.

I know each and every one of us developed our first “brief moment” of confidence from someone that influenced us during our time at GHS.

What I learned I applied:

I worked for McDonald’s (on the train) with great people like Sheila Albright Martin and Pam Kite, went to Ball State for Telecommunications and ended up graduating from UINDY with degrees in Business, Leadership and Psychology,

I’ve worked in non profit fundraising for the MS Society, worked with influencers and key opinion leaders in GI medicine for decades because of my work with the largest private device manufacturer in the world, Cook Medical and learned how to launch marketing programs and products across the world.

What I’ve learned about my life is that I would not have had the curiosity to learn more about what now shapes my career unless it would have been for certain influences in my life (That all started right here).

and because I value it, I believe each of us in this community have the stories that continue to shape our community.

Today my husband and I have a media production studio in the POLK PLACE building in Main Street and we help create strategic media and marketing content for entrepreneurs, non profits, community events and programs.

One of the things I am proposing is to help capture the essence of Greenwood Memories and produce and host a PODCAST -YOUTUBE channel to share the real stories that have shaped our community.

These include:

Teachers

Coaches

Administrators

Bus Drivers

Club Sponsors : Student Council, Theater, Language, Arts,

etc:
